A Chicago native, Murph began his advertising career in the paste-up room at Foote Cone & Belding. He went on to become a well decorated art director with his work being recognized by the One Show, Archive, Print, The London International Awards and the Chicago International Film Festival. While at J. Walter Thompson, he created the award winning campaign to introduce Kellogg’s Mueslix cereal to America. At the time it was the single most successful new product launch in Kellogg’s history. He also created a Lowenbrau print campaign that was voted best print campaign of the year by Advertising Age. Murph also worked at DDB on Busch Beer and the Cheese Council, Leo Burnett on McDonalds, Maytag and Kraft, and Y&R where he was a VP/Creative Director. At Y&R, Murph helped introduce Icehouse Beer with a commercial that he directed for the Super Bowl. The spot asked consumers to help create a slogan for the new ice beer and featured an 800 number. The brewery received over 22,000 calls by half time alone.
In 1995, Murph was a founding partner in Square One in Dallas. As the Chief Creative Director, he created and oversaw award-winning work for clients such as Miller Brewing and Whataburger. His Red Dog Beer campaign for Miller was selected as part of the AICE (Association of Independent Commercial Editors) travelling show in 1998. The Miller Lite “Tamale” spot was voted Best of Show by the AHAA (Association of Hispanic Advertising)Creative Awards and given Honorable Mention in the One Show. During his tenure, the creative department grew from two to twenty-five while the agency billings went from $5 Million to over $120 Million.
In 2006, Murph joined the The Richards Group in Dallas as a Group Creative Director. Over the next 5 years his many responsibilities included making Red Lobster the best looking food photography on the air, furthering the perfection debate about anything except Patron Tequila, which we all know is Simply Perfect™, keeping the wheels turning for Advance Auto Parts, introducing the world to the Aria Resort and Casino, and encouraging the do-it-yourselfer to change their oil and air filters to Fram.
Most recently Murph was the Chief Creative Officer at Furniture Row in Denver, CO where he directed a major re-branding effort for the tired old brand.
